Last Friday's Action!

Last Friday's Action!

The 2009 MVA Friday Night Racing season kicked off last week with exciting racing in all three categories. Great weather, big men’s fields and a solid women’s field made for great spectator action. Highlights from the racing included fast keirin racing in the Men’s 3 field, a tight race for the final points sprint in the Men’s 1/2 Points Race Final, and a show of different talents in the women’s field.

In the Category 1/2 Men’s field, there was a battle between three riders all night, made most apparent during the finale points race. A close points spread between the top three riders, Grant Boursaw (#2), Kenny Williams (#1) and Jamie Stangeland (#3), made the last sprint crucial in deciding the winner. Grant (last year’s season series runner up- to Kenny) ended up winning the deciding sprint, and seems to be on fine form this year, so watch out for him this week!

In the Category 3 Men’s field, one rider set himself above the pack by winning all three races. ByrneInvent’s Aaron Hedrick (#329) won’t be a Category 3 rider for long if he keeps riding like that! Sam Johnson (#333), a strong local road racer got second in both the Points Race and the Point-a-lap. With a bit more track experience, Sam will be a rider to watch. Annette Williams (#318), one of the two women racing in the men’s field, put on a show and ended up 4th in the Keirin final, so don’t count her out of any race!

The races in the Women’s field showed why Amara Boursaw (#101) was season champion last year, as she won every race! Road star Jadine Riley (#117) put up a strong fight and ended up 2nd in the night’s omnium, with Tela Crane (#105) following in 3rd.

Pick out your favorite racer and cheer them on in their quest for season points and glory! The racing action promises to heat up as the season progresses, and more close racing action is sure to result.
